With the launch of Project Echo, we’re beginning a new chapter in Minecraft server performance, starting with one of the biggest hardware upgrades we’ve ever rolled out.

A New Standard for Server Performance

As of June 22nd, every server on our Basic plan is now powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. This marks a major leap forward from the 5700G chips previously used across our platform, and sets a new baseline for what you should expect from modern Minecraft hosting.

Compared to the processors most hosts still rely on, the 7950X delivers over 150% better performance in real-world Minecraft workloads. With its cutting-edge architecture and class-leading single-threaded speed, it allows servers to load chunks faster, tick more reliably, and stay smooth under pressure, even with plugins or modpacks running.

This change is now live for all new and existing customers on Basic plans.

What You'll Notice In-Game

Here’s how the 7950X upgrade translates to real gameplay improvements:

  • Chunks load faster, especially when exploring new areas
  • Redstone mechanics tick more smoothly, even in complex contraptions
  • Large multiplayer events (50+ players) see fewer lag spikes
  • Heavy modpacks start faster, save faster, and run more reliably

These aren’t just small improvements, for many servers, they represent a complete shift in how responsive and consistent the world feels.

Pricing That Stays Simple

Despite the major hardware jump, we’re keeping our prices exactly where they’ve always been.

While many hosts charge £3–£4 per GB to access chips like the 7950X, we offer:

  • £1.50/GB on Basic — now powered by the 7950X

No hidden upgrades, no new tiers required. Just better performance at a low price.

Migration Details

To support this hardware transition, we will begin migrating all Basic servers to the new nodes starting at 3:00 AM BST on June 23rd. This process is automatic, no customer action is required.

  • Smaller servers are moved quickly, with minimal downtime
  • Larger servers will take longer, depending on data size
  • Most migrations will be completed within a few hours of the window opening

If you’d like to check on your server’s status, you can find updates in your panel notifications or via the status page.

What’s Next?

This is just the first phase of Project Echo. Later this year, we’ll be rolling out our upgraded Pro plans, powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, AMD’s next-generation flagship processor. With up to 20% more performance than the 7950X in heavy workloads, it’s built for servers that push the limit.

We’ll share more details on the Pro rollout soon.

Thank you for being part of ExpHost as we continue building one of the fastest and most affordable Minecraft platforms in the world.
